Tumour heterogeneity: The cancer kaleidoscope

Tumour cells within an individual tumour are known to be heterogeneous, and understanding their molecular composition and how this changes in response to therapy is now an area of intense research. Using in situ analyses and mathematical modelling, two papers by Franziska Michor, Kornelia Polyak and colleagues have examined the phenotypic and genotypic diversity of individual tumour cells in breast cancer.
