The cage vibration analysis of high speed ball bearings is extremely difficult, because the vibration is typically non-linear. The cage sound of a high speed rolling bearing has been reported as a random vibration with no particular vibration components. It may occur during rotation at Ion temperature or in high viscosity oil. Abnormal cage vibration can cause serious damage to the cage. Therefore, the analysis of cage vibration is very important to the optimized design of bearings. This paper describes the experimental and theoretical investigation on sound, vibration and motion of cage of a high speed ball bearing Cage sound, radial vibration and radial motion are explained based on the results of the experiment. The experimental parameters are temperature, oil viscosity, pre-load, rotor acceleration, and cage unbalance. In addition to these parameters, cage clearance, traction coefficient and radial load are applied by theoretical analysis. This paper also discusses the vibration components of cage angular vibration in the frequency domain.
