Wilhelm Henneberg & Franz Lehmann: PIONEERS IN SCIENTIFIC ANIMAL NUTRITION IN GOTTINGEN-WEENDE

The forthcoming jubilee of the Henneberg-Lehmann Foundation is a happy occasion to take a strongly abridged look back at the crucial, scientific achievements of Wilhelm Henneberg and Franz Lehmann, whose honourable names the Foundation has now borne for 50 years. Two aspects are critical here, whereby the appreciable scientific works of major contemporaries of Henne-berg and Lehmann are largely left out of consideration in this article. On the one hand it is helpful for junior scientists whose outstanding resea ch work is traditionally acknowledge by promotional awards of the Henneberg-Lehmann Foundation to be able to pigeonhole their own contributions to the development of the discipline. On the other hand, this offers an opportunity to integrate aselection of current research of the Institute for Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition that sees itself committed to the tradition of Gottingen's "fathers of animal nutrition" and to draw attention to future development requirements for animal nutrition. This must be viewed not least have been largely researched. Now, however, it is important to develop essential transitions in system-oriented research approaches while at the same time developing the method-theory basis of the discipline further andto set up or improve social acceptance of this. Essential independent and networked areas of responsibility in agricultural research have been elaborated in the aide memoire of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG-German research community) on the perspectives of research in agricultural science from the implementation of which the applications side too will benefit.
