National Farmers Federation president Jock Laurie pulls no punches. He said the peak body has never supported the carbon tax. And in its current form, never would. As far as he was concerned, the dark shadow threatening to rain disaster on Australia'sfarmers in two years was the fuel exemption. Jock said under the current structure that was as long as the exemption was good for and he held grave concerns on what would happen after that. "If fuel is dragged into the equation for our farmers it will add so much cost it will be a disaster for producers," Jock said. "Especially in the north, where transport is such a big cost to the industry," he said. "But that aside, it is the hidden costs which will still strike producers from Day One.
