The many faces, and fears, of biosecurity

Queensland plant pathologist Murray Sharman reports on factors associated with the spread of grain diseases, including tobacco streak virus (TSV), which has proven to be one of the most damaging viral diseases in Queensland oilseed crops. Biosecuritythreats to Australian grain industries come in many forms, such as fungal diseases, insect pests and diseases caused by viruses. Under favorable conditions for disease outbreaks, both endemic and exotic plant viruses can pose serious threats to all grainindustries including cereals, pulses and oilseeds.
