Tricky solution for valve stem seals

Unfortunately, there are no magic cures for a tired, old engine. Wear and tear eventually take their toll, leading to a lack of power, higher oil consumption and a smokey exhaust. But while black or blue smoke under normal running usually indicates the engine is approaching old age, sometimes the cause is far simpler. A smokey exhaust from an otherwise healthy engine may be caused by worn valve stem oil seals. Valve stem oil seals seem insignificant, but have an important role in preventing excessive oil consumption. All too often their replacement is ignored when overhauling an engine.
