A new early-maturing and high-quality rice cultivar, 'Taeseongbyeo'.

Taeseongbyeo is an early-maturing, high quality japonica rice cultivar developed by the rice breeding team of the National Institute of Crop Science, RDA in Korea Republic in 2002. Taeseongbyeo was developed from a cross between Cheolwon 49 and Jinbu 10 (Jinbubyeo). This cultivar has an early heading date of 28 July, a 74-cm culm length and a lodging resistance with sturdy culms. It is moderately resistant to blast disease but susceptible to bacterial leaf blight, virus diseases and insect pests. Milled rice of Taeseongbyeo is clear in grain appearance, low in amylose content and excellent in palatability of cooked rice. The average milled rice yield of this cultivar is 5.72 t/ha in ordinary cultures of local adaptability tests. Taeseongbyeo would be highly adaptable to the northern plain, mid-mountainous area and northeastern coastal area in Korea..
