Ovine Johne's disease (OJD) came to national attention during the mid 1980s when it was identified as an emerging cause of significant numbers of sheep deaths in New South Wales. Since then, national policy has been committed to protecting the national sheep industries from further spread of this disease and reducing the level of disease in already infected regions. As a result of long-term research, Australian sheep producers now have a number of tools to assist them to manage the disease. Some producers are using these tools to great effect.
