Public transport operators are adopting electronic surveillance systems to counter growing pressure from a variety of reasons, which includes security surveillance and driver monitoring. However, for such systems to become effective management tools, they must allow users to 'stamp' recorded video footage with Time of Day and other measured data. These problems require a single system to not only capture all the video, time and measured data inputs, but also reliably and clearly correlate them to one another. The system must record data from multiple cameras showing views within and around the bus. Image quality must be good enough for reliable recognition of people's faces. Accurate time stamping of recorded images is also needed While the vehicle is operating and images are being recorded, the system must also capture other variables, such as braking, steering, fuel consumption rate and GPS positioning information for display or storage alongside the image frames.
