We are currently in a recession that doggedly goes on with only a glimmer of revival. It will start to get better and when it does, it pays to be aware of the new challenges mushroom growers will face. Inflation will occur when our economy begins to show improvement. Inflation is defined as the rate of increase in the general level of prices for goods and services, which decreases the purchase power of the currency used. Simply put, our money buys less. This is what happened in Germany after World War I when inflation progressed to hyperinflation and artists produced cartoons depicting the need for a wheelbarrow of money to purchase a loaf of bread. Inflation is a concern for any government since it is hard to control once it gets going. If it getsout of control, we could all end up needing a wheelbarrow when we head to the supermarket. The concern is not that inflation occurs but rather the rate at which it occurs that becomes the problem.
