Stocks of crude and products in the reporting areas fell by 60 mn bbls in the fourth quarter, but still ended the year 46 mn bbls higher than in December 2011. There is no global surplus of oil, however. While Atlantic Basin crude stocks rose by more than 50 mn bbls last year, there were substantial draws in global product stocks, which are at their lowest level for almost a decade in Europe.
