In 1998, Sasol, the South African-based oil and gas company, launched a KM program -which it calls the "KM journey" - to address a unique set of problems, including the need to merge cultures after acquisitions in the US and Europe, and a failure to fully utilize creativity in the company. Here, Marina Hiscock describes how the KM team sought buy-in at all levels of the business, and how they measure effectiveness with a seven-level "Pyramid of Excellence."
