摘要

This paper reviews the role of growth factors in coordinating the development of the different cell lineages at implantation in mammals, and the maintenance and induction of primitive ectoderm by endoderm during the approach to gastrulation. Attention is focused on communication among cell lineages within the embryo and between the embryo and maternal tissues.
