As ubiquitous as cell phones have become, it should not be surprising that wireless technology is working its way into the production areas of manufacturing enterprises. Concerns about security and reliability-the industrial equivalent of dropped calls-have slowed the pace at which manufacturers are deploying wireless networks. Still, there is growing evidence that wireless technology has a future in manufacturing.
