The lion's share of RFID discussion is focused on the consumer packaged goods (CPG) sector, but it could be said the pharmaceutical industry has the most compelling RFID business case-the safety and security of the pharmaceutical supply chain-with manufacturers at the head of the supply chain pushing adoption, rather than retailers at the tail working to "wag the dog. As with CPG, however, looming mandate deadlines-this time from the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and relevant state agencies, rather than Wal-Mart- are the incentives for pressing on.
