The article demonstrates that the sulfur classified as a by-product from petroleum refining process (PS) is capable of being used as a curing agent. Poor dispersion of the PS is still of high concern and, thus, attempts have been made to use a common rubber plasticizer, namely treated distillate aromatic extract (TDAE) oil, as a dispersing agent. Properties of natural rubber (NR) incorporated with the sulfur masterbatches were investigated. Results reveal that the presence of TDAE oil gives a significant enhancement in dispersibility of the PS, and thus mechnical properties, with minimal effect on NR compound processability.
