Demodicosis and ringworm in hedgehog - A new therapeutic approach [German]

Demodicosis in hedgehogs is a rare parasitic dermatologic disease caused by mites of the species Demodex erinacei. In this paper clinical symptoms are presented including diagnosis and treatment of demodicosis in a hedgehog which simultaneously suffered from a massive Trichophyton sp.-mycosis. The main symptom was a severe cranial alopecia. Our experiences with a use of selamectin (Stronghold(R)) for the eradication of demodectic mites in hedgehog are reported.
