Bone suture and hemicerclage - helpful techniques for reconstruction of comminuted fractures in small animals. Part 2. Clinical application in 52 cases of long-bone fractures.

Treatment of comminuted fractures of long bones in 17 dogs and 35 cats is described. All fractures were repaired using bone sutures and postoperative bone alignment was correct in all cases. A neutralization plate was used in 48 cases. 36 of 48 animals were monitored until complete healing. Healing was uneventful in 34 of 36 cases, whereas implant failure occurred in 2 cases. There was no radiological evidence of adverse reactions due to bone sutures.
