Effects of suture technique and suture material on wound healing in common carp (Cyprinus carpio).

This study shows that suture technique, as well as suture material, influence wound healing. Healthy carp were anaesthetized. The abdominal cavity was opened and the incisions were closed immediately with different suture techniques and materials. The carp were kept at a water temperature of 20 degrees C. The suture material was removed six days postoperation. From the materials and methods used, diagonal suture (cross-stitch suture technique) with polyamide (nylon) induced the mildest symptoms of inflammation with minimal bacterial colonization of the wound..
