Heat recovery system for the EAF meltshop

German steel producer Georgsmarienhutte GmbH has replaced the exhaust gas cooling system of its EAF meltshop. The new system, including the first element of the waste gas duct, was completely designed as Tenova iRecovery system that is now producing 20 t/h of saturated steam of 13 to 20 bar pressure. This steam is conveyed to the vacuum degassing system, replacing steam from a gas fired boiler house. This paper analyzes the project characteristics as well as the opportunity for similar heat recovery in EAF meltshops.
