Effects of urban temperature riseon photochemical oxidant concentrations

An atmospheric dispersion model and a mesoscale meteorological model, was used to reproducethe observed air pollution conditions for the typical fine day in summer period, especially theconcentration of the photochemical oxidants. And the effects of an increase in the urban tem-perature and VOC emissions on the concentration of photochemical oxidants were also investi-gated. As a result, the following conclusions were drawn. Concerning the effect of temperaturerise, 1°C increase leads to a maximal photochemical oxidant concentration of 5.3 ppb, which isan increase of 11%. Especially, the effect on the photochemical oxidant concentration due to anincrease in the vegetation-derived VOCs was more than double the effect due to an increase inthe photochemical reactions. When the temperature increases up to 3°C, the concentration ofphotochemical oxidants increases by 19 ppb.
