Rodney J. Bartlett from Quantum Theory Project (QTP), a research center, shares views on the developments at the Quantum Theory Project since its establishment. The education on the chemistry side of QTP was in a Swedish/European manner. The idea was that after attending the winter schools and the many seminars held at QTP, a student would identify a relevant problem, solve it, and submit it for the PhD. The physics education focused on doing lots of calculations for crystalline solids. One of the students, Karlheinz Schwarz, used the Herman-Skilman program for Hartree-Fock-Slater (HFS) calculations and determined the best values of α, with an average of ~0.75. The combination of the Winter schools with the lectures given at QTP by John Slater, a professor, and particularly the visiting Swedes provides significant knowledge on electronic structure theory and dynamics to the students.
