Not so long ago, membership in the waterjet cutting club was exclusive. The cost of admission was high, which left many service centers and OEMs behind the velvet ropes Now comes a new waterjet cutting machine that, while still a high-dollar item, lowers the initiation fee by some 30 percent below its predecessor. It's the WMC-2 from Flow International, a second-generation cutting system that replaces the WMC-1 that has been built since 1999. The new gantry-type waterjet machining center (WMC) from the Kent, Wash., manufacturer was officially announced at Fabtech International in November 2003 and will be displayed for the first time at the Westec show in Los Angeles this month. It promises advanced capabilities over the 1 series as well as a lower price, according to Michael Ruppenthal, director of marketing.
