That's one conclusion you'll certainly reach after reading this month's Fabricating Roundtable, which starts on page 24. While satisfied with their own responses to global competitive pressures, these executives weren't complacent. Everyone recognizes the likelihood that markets that at the moment seem protected might change as foreign competitors adjust their focus and pursue shorter runs, faster lead times and more complicated parts. More than one executive wondered about responses from a government that seemed blase to the fate of domestic manufacturing. Although almost all could point to legislation or regulations that might have some impact, they found no solid direction that indicated that any solution or assistance would impact their future sustainability.
