Fatal doping cases in sport. A historical review

abstract_textpThe classical doping drugs in sport are the so-called stimulants. Deaths from these substances in competitive sports have been described since the last quarter of the 19th century. However, anabolic substances have probably been used in competitive sports only since the 1950s. Deaths from anabolic steroids were registered more often in the scientific literature since the 1980s and are obviously frequently due to ischemic heart disease and premature atherosclerosis./p/abstract_text
