Understanding process variability sufficiently to identify and address the root causes is crucial for achieving consistently high-quality products, efficiently and with minimised waste and maximised competitiveness. Although the enabling technology exists and is well proven in some large factories, such multivariate analysis has generally been impracticable for many small sites or, indeed, for most individual applications at large facilities. Now, however, that situation is changing as more and more companies, small, medium and large, are able to explore those depths of process analysis which previously were too costly, time consuming and, for many, far too complex to implement.
