BP Amoco subsea control system lessons

BP Amoco currently operates more than 100 subsea wells in the UK, Gulf of Mexico and China, producing approximately 500 mbd of oil and 400 mmscfd of gas. Most of these wells have been completed and in operation since 1997 All of BP Amoco's subsea production control systems are electrohydraulic (E/H), using water-based hydraulic fluid. Most are open, i.e. discharging fluid to sea on valve operation, the exception being Bruce Phase II which utilises a hydraulic return.
