1) Seacoal has been found to be the primary culprit for the production of hazardous air pollutants in the pouring, casting and shakeout processes. 2) Reducing seacoal results in the occurrence of expansion defects. 3) Cellulose can eliminate expansion defects, while reducing costs and hazardous emissions. In the past, both seacoal and cellulose have been added to green sand separately to reduce expansion defects in iron and steel castings. But stricter environmental regulations are making cellulose the more attractive additive.
