History Holds Keys for Future Environmental, Health & Safety Issues

Many things have changed in the metalcasting industry over the past three decades. But few areas of the industry have seen as many new "rules" put in place as environmental, health and safety. A dozen new pieces of legislation that center on environmental, health and safety issues have been instituted since 1974 with scores of amendments being made to them and those that already existed. The Clean Air Act, for example, has been amended 16 times since its inception in 1963. In many instances, metalcasters are just now seeing the impact of some of these regulations. To a large portion of the industry, what went on during the bombardment of legislation throughout the past 30 years is just a rumor. With many more concerns looming, it is critical to learn from past lessons.
