I had for a long time been dissatisfied with the normal toolmakers' clamp; fussy to set and the projections often got in the way of the very operation they were supposed to be supporting. I started by making various designs of single sided clamps, which were a slight improvement, but when a job loomed on the horizon that required a series of off-set clamps, this variant came into being.
