A load of rubbish. That's what most Colombians were thinking when they heard that Bogota's left-wing mayor Gustavo Petro had been ousted from office over the alleged mismanagement of the capital's rubbish collection service. Rewind to 2012 when Petro decided to end private refuse collection contracts and let the city manage the job itself. The DIY approach backfired and mountains of rubbish piled up on the streets of the capital for three days. Following public outcry, Petro was forced to renew the private contracts.
