Bush signs Medicare reform; NMA played active role in pursuing measure's passage

Key members of Congress, administration officials and representatives from interested companies and organizations, including Caterpillar Inc.'s Edward Kaleta, chairman of the Employers Coalition on Medicare (ECOM) and NMA Vice President for Health and Safety Bruce Watzman, were present at a White House ceremony this week as President Bush signed the Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003. The new law is expected to dramatically alter the delivery of health care to the nation 5 seniors and reduce the economic burdens imposed on employers that provide such coverage. NMA played an active and highly visible role in pursuing passage of the measure on behalf of its members.
