PT Timah profit soars on higher tin prices

PT Timah (Persero) Tbk reported that the unaudited consolidated Financial Statement for the period ended 30 June 2007 with limited review by the Public Accountant, Price Waterhouse Coopers, which posted a net profit of Rp.780.8 billion, or Rp.1,551 per share. The net profit was 31.6 times higher than that of Rp. 23.9 billion recorded in the same period of 2006. This was attributed to higher average selling price of refined tin as well "as higher production and sales volume of refined tin. World's tin prices has been strengthening since early fourth quarter of 2006 as a result of the law enforcement efforts to the tin mining players on Bangka Island.
