The 2 billion US dollars Jindal Group is the largest steel producer in India. The flagship company of the group, Jindal Stainless Limited is the largest integrated stainless steel (SS) producer in India. The company has its origins in a former Jindal Group company called Jindal Strips Ltd. Jindal Strips Limited was incorporated in 1970 to manufacture hot-rolled steel strips with facilities at Hisar in the state of Haryana. In 1978, the company started manufacturing SS. In 1998, Jindal Strips enhanced its SS melting facilities to 250,000 tpy and undertook its first stage restructuring to hive off the sponge iron and carbon steel business. In 2001, the SS cold rolling capacity was enhanced from 30,000 mtpa to 90,000 mtpa. In 2003, the company undertook a second round of restructuring to hive off the entire SS business to Jindal Stainless Limited with effect from 1st April 2003. Today, the ISO 9002 and ISO 14001 company, Jindal Stainless is India's largest integrated SS producer with a 500,000 tpy capacity and enjoys a 40 per cent market share with a focus on providing a wide range of value-added products.
