Volvo unveil new D Series articulated dumptrucks and E Series wheel loaders

Anyone used to the C Series articulated dumpers from Volvo will notice the 20 percent extra power output at their fingertips on the new A25D and A35D, previewed in Sweden just before being launched at Conexpo in the US this month (March 19-23). According to Mikael Larson, vice-president of marketing and sales for articulated haulers, that extra power translates directly into 20 percent faster dump cycle times, which, as he said, represents a "quite extraordinary" increase in productivity.There is a trade off. Not in the amount of fuel consumed, which should be less, but in the cost of the new electronic control systems that are instrumental in producing the extra power. Electronic engine controls have had to be developed to meet ever-stricter European emission regulations and they feature on all new plant. But they add 2-3 percent to the cost of making a machine, according to Scott Hall, senior vice-president sales and marketing of Volvo Construction Equipment.
