EMPLOYMENT: New Employment Regulation 2006

In 2003 the government carried out a consultation on the timing of new employment regulation. The outcome was that, in order to help reduce the burden on business, new measures would be introduced only twice each year. These are on 6 April and 1 October. The first was to coincide with the new tax year and the second to coincide with the annual uprating of the national minimum wage. Early in each year the Department of Trade and Industry undertook to publish a list of its proposed measures for that year. Thus the 2006 listing, available on the DTI website, is the third of these annual forecasts.
