Union loan saves the UK's last deep-pit mine

The UK's last viable deep-pit coal mine has been saved after the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) invested in the employee-owned mine. The NUM said it would secure the jobs of about 430 miners working at Hatfield Colliery in south Yorkshire, both earmarked for eventual closure.The cash will pay for mining a new coal face.
