Second blast ends hopes for 29 trapped New Zealand miners

Flags on Government buildings throughout New Zealand will be flown at half mast in honour of the 29 underground miners at the Pike River coal mine on the South Island who were posted as having all perished after a second major blast at the mine mid afternoon today. At a press conference late today an emotional Prime Minister John Key said the whole country was devastated by the disaster, and Tony Kokshoorn, the equally emotion Mayor of Greymouth - where most of the miners lived - described it as the darkest day in the West Coast's history.
