A motorized conveyor pulley is a high-efficiency gearmotor that is totally enclosed inside a conveyor pulley or cylindrical steel tube. The tube, which is normally crowned for centralized belt tracking, has precision bearings mounted internally in the pulley tube end caps. Motorized pulleys rotate on a stationary shaft. Shafts are fixed on both sides of the rotating pulley with mounting blocks or flange mounts. The motorized pulley is sealed and internal drive components, such as gears and bearings, are lubricated and cooled with oil. The obvious appeal of a motorized conveyor pulley for portable aggregate equipment drive applications is its compact size. It is not just a low-profile drive, but positioned between the rails it is a no-profile drive, which is out of sight and out the way for trailering, hauling or storage. Equipment manufacturers can make good use of the new space and clearances, allowing easier access and unobstructed views of material flow. Eliminating the overhung weight of a conventional drive allows for lighter structural designs and balanced loading of the equipment. Setup and dismantling of portable equipment is less awkward and with fewer damaged parts.
