Wood 'N' Wings

When the first tantalising images of this kit were released a couple of years ago, I, along with many other modellers no doubt, marked this down as one to build. An impressive plane in any scale - the last one that passed through my hands was the Toko kit a good while back now - and I thought that was a pretty substantial model for a 1/72 aircraft. With the quality of Wingnut Wings' output seeming to get better with each release, building this one blindfolded was a tempting challenge. However, in the end I adopted a more traditional approach to construction so that I could at least appreciate all of its exquisite detail, and the care that the designers have put into the tooling of this kit. Such is the design of the model that you can, during the cleaning up process, take great lumps of it (wings, fuselage and tail), tape it all together, and just admire it knowing that you can really look forward to a fantastically impressive model. I lost count the amount of times I kept doing this throughout the build as more bits came together! Key to this is the metal spar that runs through the heavy wings to secure the exact dihedral required, and which slots beneath the cockpit floor locking everything in place. Clever!
