Worldwide interest in light wheeled combat vehicles is at a very high level, a reflection of three major factors. The first is a greater appreciation of the technology which has greatly enhanced the performance of these vehicles. The second is the fact that most nations now accept that a mix of tracked and wheeled vehicles is needed, especially nations that have international obligations. The third is the recent selection of the Piranha by the US Army to meet its Interim Armored Vehicle requirement. This selection is already having a major impact on the market. Around the globe, the number of players and programs have increased to the point that military organizations now have a cornucopia of vehicles from a great variety of sources from which to choose. The main factor driving this market, this overabundance of players and programs, is forcing competitors to cut prices and to develop new and innovative marketing tactics and financing arrangements.
