When Lambert joined the company in May 2007, his primary brief was to oversee the establishment of the Copernicus nickel sulphide mine in Western Australia's Kimberley, a project which Thundalarra was developing as a joint venture with Panoramic Resources (formally Sally Malay) Ltd. As planned, the operation - which sits some 75 kilometres north-north east of Halls Creek - did successfully come on line during 2008. However, it was quickly put on care and maintenance when the price of the base metal slid south on the back of the global financial meltdown.
