Leaders in drug and alcohol testing make their case

The impact of drug and alcohol misuse is estimated to cost Australia billions of dollars annually. Recent data has demonstrated a four-fold increase in alcohol and illicit drug detection when testing is conducted on individuals involved in accidents and incidents in the workplace. Through workplace health and safety legislation, employers have a responsibility to provide a healthy and safe working environment and identify and manage hazards in the workplace. As part of this responsibility, the practice of detection and management of the risks associated with misuse of drugs and alcohol amongst employees and contractors is increasing in Australian workplaces.
