Momentum is definitely building in the resources sector of Tasmania with work program approvals doubling in 2004/05 and a number of new projects and floats progressing. Mineral Resources Tasmania managing geologist Geoff Green told delegates at the recent Mining 2005 Resources Convention in Brisbane, the unparalleled diversity of deposit styles and opportunities, coupled with the excellent regulatory and information infrastructure, was proving a major drawcard. New projects being developed, according to Green, include the resumption of heavy mineral sands mining, completion of a feasibility study and resumption of scheelite mining by the end of the year and alluvial tin mining due to recommence at two sites in north eastern Tasmania next year.
