MacMahon's underground division recently took another positive step towards the elimination of sprain and strain injuries at the underground Olympic Dam operations in South Australia, with the introduction of the Industrial Athlete Program (IAP). Mark Armstrong, director of Perth-based Company Body Active Consultancy (BAC), who specialises in the development of customised workforce health management solutions, was engaged by MacMahon's to run a pilot program with one of the crews at Olympic Dam. The program commenced in June 2005 with the objective to reduce the number of reported incidents resulting in musculo-skeletal sprain and strain injuries, particularly with respect to the lower back and knee areas.
