Alkane Exploration Ltd has expanded its holdings in New South Wales, laying the foundations for a three-pronged gold search. Technical director Ian Chalmers said the company had decided to focus its energies in the region when it started its successful Peak Hill heap leach operation in 1996. Late in 2003, both Rio Tinto and Climax Mining indicated they were prepared to divest some ground so Alkane seized the opportunity. "Certainly the Rio Tinto ground at Bodangora is very exciting, and we have a high regard for it. While you Can't give much detail in an ASX release, we can say that if the target was sitting in Western Australia it would either have a mine on it, or thousands of drill holes in it. It's virtually been untested," Chalmers said.
