Kambalda's current nickel king -Mincor Resources NL - has -shown it is serious about expanding its minerals portfolio following the release of some encouraging field numbers from a rare earths play located in a different part of Western Australia. As part of its growth and expansion strategy, Mincor has targeted high-grade mineralisation in outcropping skarn units at its wholly-owned Gascoyne tungsten project. The resources house, which so far has been one of the WA mining sector's outstanding mid-tier success stories of the 21st century, holds a 756 square kilometre ground package some 350 km east of the port town of Carnarvon in the Gascoyne region. Mincor acquired the land earlier this year as it looked to broaden its asset base into commodities and geographic regions outside of its core Kambalda nickel business.
