The base metals have taken a hammering in recent days, with intense selling pressure seen across the board. As a small and relatively illiquid market, tin tends to fall harder and faster than the other larger contracts when it gets caught up in a stampede like this. And so it has been this time, with three-month prices trading around $23,000/tonne at the tail end of last week, but falling to sub-$21,000/ tonne intraday on Monday. The near-$2,000/ tonne slump mirrors the scale of the fall in mid-February, and there was a $1,500/tonne reversal in mid-March too.
