MT. PLEASANT, Mich.—Michigan oil and gas drilling activity continued to be significantly impacted by low crude oil and natural gas prices in the second quarter of 2016, with the first quarter total of 3 drilling completions replicated in the April through June period. Drilling permit issuance is similarly depressed, with a total of only 13 new drilling permits issued in the first half of the year. A total of five operators recorded drilling completions in the first half, with only one, Savoy Energy, drilling more than one hole. Among the six drilling completions were two apparently successful development oil wells.
