MASS BALANCE EVALUATION IN POWER PLANTS USING NEUTRON ACTIVATION ANALYSIS (NAA)

Instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) is a useful technique for evaluating the mass balance of trace element involved in power plants utilizing coal, oils, and city waste. The INAA technique, which is multielemental, sensitive enough for the actual level content of many elements, simple, and reliable, can be utilized to evaluate the overall amount of trace elements migrating from the input materials to the environment. Measured ranges of trace elements in combustible materials, in bottom ashes, in fly ash, and in the vapor phase are reported. (C) 1995 Academic Press, Inc. [References: 14]
